WELCOME to our world of the AKK!!

(The precious angels that started it all - TAG - The Alakkawa Gang - Chance & Montana's 1st litter)

L-R - Cana, Chloe, Max, & Guinness

HELLO AND WELCOME to ALAKKAWA KENNELS of Georgia!

CONTACT ME FOR A "PET" ONLY AKK!

I will only place a “Breeding Quality” AKK with existing breeders.

I will not start out any new AKK breeders.

I will not ship any AKK outside of the United States.

If you are a breeder of another breed, do not contact me for an AKK!

Thank you for stopping by our site and taking the time to learn more about the Alaskan Klee Kai - the miniature Alaskan Husky. Our goal concerning this website is to educate those interested in these very rare and precious little gems. My husband and I breed with several goals in mind; produce dogs that are an improvement of the breed regarding health, temperament, quality, an improvement of their parents, and find wonderful homes that will give the same quality care we have given them from the time they were born. Take a look around our site and view our many photos. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Applicant Screening: We require a full questionnaire to be filled out before any decisions are made. We screen applicants intently with our questionnaire and we conduct phone interviews after several email communications are sent and received. We have turned down several people with for one reason or another with whom we did not feel comfortable with allowing an adoption to transpire. We are very selective in our process and we hope you understand our standards. We encourage those interested in this breed to do their own research, visit a breeder, (if possible), and ask a lot of questions. There is a "Questions To Ask" button on the left scroll bar that you can take a look at, and I have answered all of the same questions people have asked me. Remember, having a pet is a lifetime commitment and one that should never be taken lightly just because they are cute, cuddly, furry and smaller than their ancestors. I have many pictures on this site for your viewing pleasure.

Our kennel: Our small kennel is located in Georgia - 35 miles east of HOT 'LANTA. We have an acre of land where all our dogs get to run, watch squirrels, and birds, and dig to their hearts content. Our entire back yard is fenced with a 4-foot chain link fence, and our only two AKK dig holes in the wooded area of our land. We also have an enclosed chain link play area with 2 dog houses. Our AKK sleep in our bed, (in their beds too), and love sitting in our lap. We are very active and love going camping and hiking in the North GA mountains to Enota Campground and Sanctuary. http://www.enota.com/.

Word of advise: If you have a wonderful opportunity to adopt an Alaskan Klee Kai and you take them out on a hike or to a park, be prepared to educate folks about this breed as total strangers will stop you and they will ask a lot of questions. I know I have answered the same questions over and over. When we go to parks of any kind, people will run clear across the park to ask us questions. It is so much fun educating people on this breed and I have made lasting friendships with those interested in this breed and with those who have adopted our babies.

A little about me and my husband: I have an associates degree in journalism, a bachelors degree in communication with a minor in criminal justice, and at present, I am working on my masters degree in education so I can become a certified teacher. At present, I work for the Board of Education in the classroom. However, I have five more classes to go and then I'll graduate. My goal is to either teach sixth grade language arts classes or high school journalism courses. Whichever route I choose, my goal is to help young minds of our future reach their highest potential.

(Teachers are the pathways to education - the molder who shapes the minds of thinkers who pushes students toward greater gifts buried within. Reflections of reasons, characteristics, educational philosophy, belief about children, staying current in the field of education, and maintaining passion are all significant aspects to an educator. My educational philosophy is very simple, yet holds many recognized aspects; it is one that is respectable toward students, treats students as individuals, influences, inspires and guides. Respecting a student is of utmost importance and treating them as individuals is a separate entity of the classroom as a whole. Influencing a student to go beyond their realm of understanding a concept, inspiring them through a guided journey with their thinking ability, and creativity through motivation of activities that pertain to the lesson, can show them that school can be a fun environment in which to learn).

I also write articles for various magazines throughout the country about education, health and fitness. My husband is a well-known chef in Atlanta and is originally from Los Angeles, CA. My husband and I love cooking dinner for friends, and we enjoy reading, research on the AKK, and occasionally we find the time to go to the movies.

I have a 22-year-old son who is the love of our life. My passion is photography and most all the photos on this site were taken by me and ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN FROM THIS SITE WITHOUT WRITTEN CONSENT!! I love to travel, but I do not get to do a lot of that lately. After all, I have AKK to take care of. Yet, in the past, I have visited various parts of the world; Europe and most every state in the U.S. I was born in Germany, have driven the autobahn, been inside beautiful castles, both still standing and in ruins where you can look through roof holes and see the heavens, gone to festivals where everyone is happy from visiting their favorite watering holes, seen beautiful beaches, climbed the highest peak in GA, driven a boat on a magnificent lake, and yet there is still so much I'd love to do. I enjoy horseback riding, outdoor concerts, camping, mountain climbing/biking, and hiking, and even spontaneity when it comes to traveling to new and exciting places whether it’s the mountains, or a weekend drive to nowhere, and I make it so much fun for my husband and animals. I look forward to every single day that God gives me, and I am geared toward making my life happy.

I bred Cocker Spaniels for five years. I had a male stud; Morocco, and Lacy, (my first Cocker Spaniel), that I bred and they produced 4 healthy, beautiful litters. I later searched for another female to add to my breeding program, and I still have Jade (who is now 11).  After my divorce, I decided to stop breeding, so I adopted Morocco out, and then later, I let Lacy become adopted to a great friend of mine who cared for her until the day she passed on in July '07. I bred Lacy for five years, but now, sadly she's in doggy heaven. Jade and Morocco only produced 1 litter of healthy, beautiful pups. I met some wonderful people during the time of Morocco, Lacy, and Jade's breedings and we are still friends today. I retired Jade from breeding in 2001.

After a long absence from breeding, I decided I wanted to pursue breeding a rare animal; an animal that not everyone had heard of, or even had, an animal that is incredibly special to those involved in the breeding program, and one that I knew would bring much happiness to those who wanted a precious gem like these. After careful consideration, and a great deal of research, I knew this was the breed for me. Again, we want to educate people on this new breed that Linda Spurlin worked so hard on. As we all know, there is no one breed of dog that is the right breed for everybody, and the Alaskan Klee Kai of course is no exception. I take this breed very seriously and wish to keep with the standards that have been set in place for over 20 years by Ms. Spurlin.

In June '04, I obtained my first male Alaskan Klee Kai; Chance from Debbie Clifton (Heartland Huskies) of Nebraska who became a great friend, and mentor. Chance originally came from Carroll Parkinson's WACO'S Kennel. One year later, in November '05, I obtained my second Alaskan Klee Kai, Montana. After Montana's third heat, Chance and Montana had their first litter of babies. We raise our puppies with tons of socialization, care, and most importantly love, along with an overwhelming commitment and desire to find the perfect family for each of our precious angels.

Our kennel is named after my sister's dog - Elakawa. I knew I wanted a very unique name that was rare just like the Alaskan Klee Kai. I also knew I wanted the acronym "AKK" in the name. So, I changed the spelling of Elakawa and came up with ALAKKAWA.

ELAKAWA:

In Cherokee "ELA" means "EARTH."

In Hebrew "ELA" means "GODDESS."

In Japanese "KAWA" means "RIVER."

"Kawa" Karpo is a sacred mountain found in Yunnan, China. It is sacred to most Chinese buddhist people, and the highest mountain in Yunnan.

"Kawa" Karpo is unclimbed, and is known as a meditation site.

"Kawa" no Dansu is a type of Japanese martial art. In English, the name means 'Dance of the River', perhaps referring to the constant flows of spins and thrusts. Practicers of Kawa no Dansu are referred to as dancers.

For further information, and if you would like to be considered to adopt one of our babies – you will need to fill out a questionnaire as this is the first initial step in the process. You will be screened extensively, so we may determine if the Alaskan Klee Kai might make a pleasant addition to your home and family. I will be there with you every step of the way while you ask all the questions you need to ensure the AKK is right for both you and your family. I will also ask a lot of questions of you to ensure I am making the right decision in placing one of my rare AKK in your home. The best way to reach me is through email as I try to check it often.

Keep in mind if you do not travel to our home to pick up your AKK, and your request is to have him or her shipped to your location, then the price does NOT include shipping, a health certificate ($89.50), (which is standard with any airline), or a crate ($65.00).

ALL the above mentioned fees are extra and normally these "extras" can go over $350.00 depending on your location.

As of 1/4/08 - An airline ticket to ship a puppy from Atlanta Hartsfield/Jackson International Airport to Portland International Jetport in Portland, ME, cost a new family an additional $230.00.

The total "extra" pricing for the family was $384.50 on top of the purchase price for the AKK.

Please take the time to read the information provided on the "PET TRAVEL" page on this site for more detailed information.

PLEASE NOTE:

All puppies will be placed on a “Pet Only” (spay/neuter) contract which means new owners will not be allowed to breed their AKK.

Future litters will be sold on a “Pet Only” contract to those NOT presently in the breeding program and

I will only place a “Breeding Quality” AKK with existing breeders.

I will not start out any new AKK breeders.

I will not ship any AKK outside of the United States.

If you are a breeder of another breed, do not contact me for an AKK!

Again, we require a full questionnaire to be filled out before any decisions are made. Even though you take the time to fill out a questionnaire, it is not a simple process and please do not assume you will automatically be allowed to adopt one of our AKK babies.

Alakkawa's Max

Max has actually turned out to be an excellent breeding quality AKK, which excites Angie and Eric Van Decar in Colorado since they are his owners, and it truly excites us here at Alakkawa Kennels that he will be able to pass on his wonderful temperament and genes to future AKK babies!
